KAthy Hankins is a local actor and singer of opera, oratorio, musical theatre, and Jazz.

 

Kathy Hankins is a local actor and singer of opera, oratorio, musical theatre, and jazz.  She is an active recitalist and cabaret artist. She has sung for area choruses including New Dominion Chorale and The Master Chorale of Washington.  Her opera credits include many productions for Opera Theater of Northern Virginia (OTNV), including EdgarIl CorsaroDon Pasquale, and the role of Imelda in Oberto.  She also appeared in the role of Juana in the opera Bohemios, a joint venture between Teatro de la Luna and OTNV. In 2008 OTNV awarded Kathy, Artist of the Year.  Kathy has a great love for children’s theater. In 2003 Adventure Theater awarded her Best Supporting Actor. Her credits include The Nightingale, Charlotte’s Web, The Araboolies of Liberty Street, The Gingerbread Man, The Cricket in Times Square, Liang and the Magic Paint Brush, just to name a few. Kathy’s musical theatre credits include Kennedy Center concert versions of the musicals Carmen Jones and Purlie. Currently, she performs a non-traditional style of cabaret that she calls “cabaret reconstructed”, which is a skillfully crafted program of opera, art song, musical theatre and jazz.
